Antler Alpine Bar & Kitchen & Fat Buddha Review - (AD)

You may have noticed a new bar has opened on the roundabout at the end of the Tyne Bridge as you head into Newcastle. Swan House as I still often refer to it, or 55 Degrees North is now occupied by Antler Alpine Bar & Kitchen, with New Buddha continuing to serve oriental cuisine on the upper level. We headed to Antler for a cocktail on our way to review Fat Buddha for owners Chrysalis Leisure.

The Vegetarian Set Menu at Chaophraya Thai Dining (REVIEW)

Chaophraya Thai Dining has launched a new menu which includes a Vegetarian Set Menu, so as it's National Vegetarian Week we went along to one of their restaurants in Newcastle-upon-Tyne to try it out. It's not the first time we've been invited to review the food at Chaophraya - we've eaten à la carte, tested the lunch menu and also tried out a Thai cookery class. So how would the vegetarian set menu fair?

16 Fab Places to Eat Out as a Veggie in North East England

I have been a vegetarian for over 30 years now and eating out as a vegetarian is so much easier now than it ever has been. Even opting for vegan food is getting slightly easier. And it's not just the big metropolitan cities that are offering such a range of choices.

Newcastle and the whole of North East England have such a great range of places that it's now sometimes too difficult to choose. It's a far cry from when you were lucky if there was a vegetable lasagne on the menu, and once on our travels, we were even asked to leave a restaurant in Paris after we asked if they could offer vegetarian dishes. I'm so glad thing have improved!

Eating Out At Riley's Fish Shack – King Edwards Bay, Tynemouth

On a secluded cove, underneath Tynemouth Priory on the northeast coastline, you’ll find one of the most innovative and tasty places to eat, in the world, Riley's Fish Shack. In fact, when you are there you really do feel like you are on holiday, not just a few miles from home.

Tynemouth, recently named as one of the best places to live in the North, by the Sunday Times, is also home to Riley’s Fish Shack. It is exactly what it says – a shack (made out of two containers) on the beach (yes, on real sand) that is a restaurant that sells predominantly fish (and a few other things). And it's well worth a visit.

Tasting the Lunch Menu at Chaophraya Newcastle (REVIEW)

There is no shortage of places to eat in Newcastle. There are so many different styles of venue to choose from, cuisines and costs. It’s not much more than a year since Chaophraya opened in the new restaurant quarter in Eldon Square, and we’ve already worked with the Thai Food restaurant twice. One for a late Valentine's date and another time to try out their Thai cookery school. So when we were invited along again I decided it would be the perfect time to try out their lunchtime menu.

A Spanish Lunch Date at Tapas Revolution in Newcastle (REVIEW)

I love tapas food. I always eat too much but I love the concept of sharing and of being able to try new foods without having to opt for them as your whole meal. So when we were invited along to Tapas Revolution in Newcastle to sample their Tapas menu we were eager to attend, so hubby and I booked ourselves a table one lunchtime for a lunch date while the boys were at school.

Veganuary at JD Wetherspoons - Tasting The Vegan Menu at The Bishops Mill, Durham

A Wetherspoons pub isn't somewhere we often eat out on an evening, but we were in Durham and staying opposite the Walkergate Leisure Complex, which has lots of casual dining restaurant chains.

The boys had decided they wanted burgers or hot dogs so as the Mexican and Italian restaurants weren't going to provide this, we took a look at The Bishops Mill menu. The boys were happy so we headed to The Bishops Mill in Walkergate to try out their menu.

As it's also Veganuary this month we thought we'd test out their vegan offerings too.

Have you been to Hexham? The picturesque market town in Tynedale is one of Northumberland's most beautiful and historic places. It is located in the heart of the beautiful Tyne Valley just a few miles south of Hadrian’s Wall. We were recently invited by the Hexham BID to sample some of the amazing food now on offer in the popular town.

Indulging in the Luxury Collection at Crêpeaffaire (REVIEW)

Tucked away under the escalator in intu Eldon Square in Newcastle, you'll find Crêpeaffaire. A small crêperie where you can enjoy freshly prepared French-style crêpes, whatever your craving, at any time of the day.

The restaurant is also celebrating its first birthday this week after opening in the recently developed Greys Quarter of Eldon Square a year ago. It was also one of our significant anniversaries last week, so hubby and I were delighted to receive an invitation to try out the new Luxury Indulgent Crêpes and Shakes that are now on offer at Crêpeaffaire in Newcastle.

When you have both lived and studied in a city, like me and hubby did in Durham, and you are presented with the opportunity to return and review a snazzy restaurant, how lucky were we that we had babysitters for a Friday evening and we could go and enjoy a child-free meal at the new Collage Restaurant at the Radisson Blu Hotel, in Durham.

Chickpea Pizzas at the Bear and Natural Kitchen, Newcastle

Just before the schools broke up for the summer holidays, me and hubby made the most of working from home and took ourselves out for a late lunch before picking up the boys from school.

We headed to the Bear and Natural Kitchen on Heaton Road in Newcastle upon Tyne. Not only is it not far from the boys' school but also a health-conscious café, run by a fully qualified nutritionist and serving up exciting healthy food and drinks.

A Girls Night Out In Jesmond at Bistro 46

Every few months I head out without the boys or hubby and enjoy a foodie themed evening with a bunch of mum friends whom I've known since the boys were at nursery. On this occasion, the destination for our eating out was to be Bistro 46 in a suburb of Newcastle called Jesmond - a place I'd heard good things about but had not actually been to.
