7 Things To Do This Month – August

We are into the 8th month of the year - August, so what do we have to enjoy this month? Full on summer, school holidays, a bank holiday, sunny days, light nights, BBQs and also rain.

That’s the British summer for you but I love it! So here are 7 things to do and enjoy this August.

Where to go with the family ...

Make the most of a Staycation with this handy A-Z list of free family days out in north east England. You just need a picnic, sun cream, a brolly and transport and you are set.

Where to eat with the kids ...

A Caribbean-themed menu just conjures up so many great images and thoughts of food with so much flavour, taste, spice, sweet and sour ... amazing seafood, one-pot stews, curry dishes, fresh and exotic vegetables all cooked in wonderful sauces … with plenty of spice. After our recent visit to Turtle Bay in Newcastle we were all suitably full. Maybe a little too full. We’d all enjoyed a different experience – Caribbean food – and it was absolutely delicious. But not only was the food amazing the staff in the restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful, friendly or informative. It was a great family lunch experience.

Where to go without the kids ...

Bistro 46 is a small restaurant in a suburb of Newcastle called Jesmond - a place I'd heard good things about but had not actually been to before a friend booked a table for a girls night out. It was a fun filled evening. The sun shone, the drinks flowed. The company was so entertaining - there were a lot of laughs. And the food and service were amazing.

What to play with ...

MOKURU is a Japanese balance toy that tests the concentration and hand-eye coordination skills for individuals of all ages. Watch our video as the boys try to get to grips with the new fidget toy.

What to watch ...

There are so many great children’s films around at the moment. We do like to get out and about as a family during the holidays but the boys also need some downtime, to recharge those batteries and we all love a family film night with pizza and popcorn. So get the whole family comfy, slice up the pizza, open up the popcorn and watch some of these great films. It’s just like having Hollywood in your home.

What to cook ...

Seaweed Bacon. Yes, a magical seaweed that turns from its reddish dried colour, into green bacon when you fry it. You can use it on anything that deserves a crunchy, salty, smoky kick. Or use the soft leaves as a flavour boost in salads, pasta or anything else. It’s vegan, organic, low carbohydrate, gluten free and sustainable.

What to win ...

Two great giveaways this month with a family ticket to Sleeping Beauty at Gateshead International Stadium in December to give away to one lucky reader

and also to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of Drumsticks we have a Drumstick Gift Box similar to the one below to giveaway too!

What are you planning this Summer?
