At the end of May, we took a family holiday in Scotland. In the Scottish Highlands at Loch Ness to be precise.
After spending the first few days of our trip enjoying a cruise on the Loch itself and learning about Nessy, discovering waterfalls and battlefields and then taking a road trip with Harry Potter it was time to chill. And with a day of rain forecast, we decided to spend most of the day at the lodge. Well, it would be a big shame not too when it was so lovely.

Loch Ness Highland Lodges
And it also had your very own secluded, hot tub. Not a necessity - but a pure luxury. And during the week the boys have enjoyed both relaxing and playing in it - even snorkelling - and I've enjoyed a glass of wine on an evening relaxing in bubbles. And today I experienced a hot tub in the rain. I guessed that if you were already wet it really didn't matter. It was actually really nice to sit in bubbling hot water, whilst the air around was cold, listening to birds tweet and the water lap the shoreline.
On our chill-out day, the boys had been enjoying the hot-tub first but I enticed them out with sausage (veggie and meat ones) and egg muffins. Although you have to make an effort when on holiday self-catering it is nice just to be able to cook and eat what you fancy.
The kitchen in the lodge is modern has everything you need and more - there is a dishwasher we haven't used - we just found it quicker and easier to wash the dishes in the sink as there isn't many to do. There are a gas hob and electric oven, a large fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster. As well as the kitchen area there is also a dining table in addition to the comfy seating area with a big tv plus two bedrooms - one with a double bed and one with two single beds. There is also a large shower room. The walk-in shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. There are also radiators in every room so I think it would still be great to visit in the winter. Prices are from £515 for 7 days.

Our lodge didn't have a washing machine but although we didn't need it there was a launderette on site. As well as a children's play area.
Loch View Lodge
The lodge itself is amazing but for me, it was all about the view. I'd booked a Loch View lodge after reading glowing TripAdvisor comments ... and I'm so glad I did. It was different every day and somehow there is nothing better than having your morning coffee, reading a book in a balcony sat in the sun listening to the natural environment around you.
Invermoriston Falls
By mid-afternoon on our chill-out day, it had started to brighten up so we headed to Invermoriston. Just a couple of miles away. As well as being the place where the road to Eilean Donan Castle begins (more about that tomorrow) it also has one of the prettiest waterfall trails I've ever been on.
There are a free car park and toilets in the middle of the village. As you enter from the west the path is on the right-hand side just after you cross the bridge. This is where Thomas Telford bridge, built in 1813, crosses the river and from where you can watch the waterfall but the best view is from the summerhouse that you can see from the bridge.
The walk itself starts behind the village hall, it's circular and takes you through the woods, down past the falls on to the summer house from where there are just breathtaking views and then returns past some of the best tree shapes, some perfect for climbing and there were still bluebells in bloom that made this walk even more beautiful.
How do you like to relax on holiday?

It looks like you had an amazing holiday - great value too! That view is to die for and I can't wait to stay in a lodge with a hot tub at Centerparcs in November now!
ReplyDeleteOn holiday to relax I like to visit the spa, have some treatments and do lots of nice swimming.
Hope you enjoy your break as much as we did ours.
DeleteIt does look super relaxing. We loved our break in the highlands last year - we camped on the shores of Loch Ness and although we thoroughly enjoyed it, I have to admit, these lodges do look super luxurious and relaxing.
