Have you seen the Ready Brek packs that are on the supermarket shelves at the moment? They have a great tie-in with Walker Books and the children’s classic book ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt’.
We have been lucky enough to have some of the new Ready Brek packs which include hints and tips about spending time outdoors and going on a bear hunt sent to us along with Bear Hunt adventure and explorer books. And you could win the same too. Simply scroll to the end of the post to enter!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
The classic 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt' picture book by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury has been a family favourite for over 25 years. It's also one of my favourite children’s books. I read it to the boys long before they could understand it, but they loved the pictures and reacted to the swishy swashy, stumble trip and hoo – woo noises. My boys came to love it and actually still love this book. At Christmas, they waited excitedly to watch the animation on C4. They know all of the words in the right order too. They can recite it off by heart ... and frequently do.
The easily recognisable illustrations fro the book and film will appear on over 1.8m packs in stores this summer so you’ve a fair chance of seeing it. Seeing it brings back great memories of the book but also of the outdoor adventures, that me and the boys have already had.
And more than just memories each pack also comes complete with an original Bear Hunt Guide on the back, with fun activity ideas to help children and families create their very own bear hunt, by swishy-swashing through grass and splash-sploshing through puddles. There are three to collect.
Ready Brek - One of My Childhood Favourites
One of the things I remember most about eating in my own childhood is Ready Brek. I always wanted an orange glow and when I was little I couldn’t understand why my body didn’t have one after eating Ready Brek. I soon got over that but I haven’t stopped eating it. I still have it most mornings. I often add seeds and cranberries to the super smooth oats – I’ve just never been able to like the more traditional lumpy porridge. And today I added seeds and strawberries.
A Nutritious Breakfast
Like most parents, I’m conscious of giving my boys a nutritious meal on a morning so they are ready for anything the day at school brings. Ready Brek is made from finely milled wholegrain oats and flour, vitamins and minerals, with no added salt or sugar. Packed with Calcium for healthy bones and teeth, Vitamin D for a healthy immune system, Protein for healthy muscles and oats for healthy digestion, along with Iron, Vitamin B1, B6 and B12, ensuring it delivers a super smooth and nutritious start to the day
I’m a regular eater of it and really fills me up and stops me snacking mid-morning. However, I haven’t been able to tempt my boys yet. But the chocolate flavour sachets that we were sent has changed all that.
90 Seconds in the Microwave
Ready Brek takes just 90 seconds to cook in a microwave – giving us just enough time to put on our wellies and head outdoors and into the garden to pick some strawberries to put on top.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt: My Adventure Field Guide (£6.99)
This is an inspiring and fun field guide to the natural world, featuring artwork from the animated special of We're Going on a Bear Hunt. The book features facts galore, but also recipes, science projects, and tips for how kids can help protect the environment. Whether skipping Swishy-swashing through the grass, or squelch-squelching through the mud, there's something here for everyone.
We're Going on a Bear Hunt: My Explorer's Journal (£4.49)
This is a wonderfully interactive journal for a young explorer to record, create and experience the natural world. This companion title to We're Going on a Bear Hunt: An Adventure Field Guide is the perfect place for young nature enthusiasts to record their outdoor experiences; the animals and plants seen, weather conditions, cloud formations and much, much more.
Ready Brek Recipes
The packs also include three delicious recipes to collect; Bear Hunt Banana Muffins, Protein-packed Bear Hunt Bites and Bear Hunt Blueberry and Apple Flapjacks which are all nutritionally balanced, energy boosting snacks that will keep little adventurers going. I already use Ready Brek in the snack bars I make for the boys' lunch boxes but I’ll be trying these new recipes out too.
We all know bears and porridge are a great fit. My boys wanted their bears to get in on the action too.
I think the Ready Brek and Bear Hunt joint adventure is a fun and easy way to engage kids outdoors and fun for the whole family. I’ve never known a child yet who doesn’t like jumping in puddles.
At breakfast time in our house, I’m going to have to watch my supplies of Ready Brek now that the boys have a taste for it. I didn’t give them it this morning and I had complaints – it will be back in their cereal bowls tomorrow.
