My boys recently enjoyed a school friend’s birthday party at a trampoline park in Newcastle and with news of at least two new trampoline parks planned for the region, I thought I’d take a look where in the north east you bounce around for a bit of fun.
More and more people have been buying trampolines for their gardens and soft play centres have often had a few trampolines but whole centres dedicated to bouncing are a more recent thing but certainly gaining in popularity. I looked at booking my local one for the boys birthdays later this year but it was already fully booked way beyond their birthday month.
I suppose the idea is simple. Bring people together, get active, get fit and have lots of fun while doing so. A great alternative on rainy days for children who are too big for soft play too.
For the birthday party, my boys had to arrive in advance of their allotted time for a safety briefing, they also had to wear special socks, which cost extra but are designed to increase grip on the trampolines, hopefully reducing the risk of injury.
Jumpers need to be at least over 18 months old, but it's 4 or 6 years at some locations, and be supervised unless they are over 12. Toddler sessions are available in some venues.
Keep Fit
Trampolining can help burn a surprising amount of calories and can help keep you fitter, too. Even though the trampoline helps produce a lot of the 'bounce', your leg and trunk muscles have to work pretty hard to help you keep your balance and slow you down when landing. Slowing you down is actually one of the most demanding activities you can ask your thigh muscles (quadriceps) to do! So as well as great fun, trampolining is also really good for you and you can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour just by jumping
5 Trampoline Parks to Bounce Around in the North East
Infinite Air Durham, Durham
The North East’s first indoor trampoline park opened in Durham in 2015. With over 18,000 sq ft of Trampolines, Foam Pits and a huge Air Bag and 6,000 sq ft of Parkour, a one-hour session here cost £11.95 but that includes a pair of socks. Here the minimum age of jumpers is 6. Younger jumpers can attend family and tots sessions.
Extreme Newcastle, Newcastle
This is the one that my boys really loved as a birthday party. Located on the West Road in Newcastle, off-peak prices for 5-15 year olds are just £5.95 if registered as members (off peak is Monday to Thursday 4pm-5pm). Socks are £2 extra. Under 5s are free but must be accompanied on the park by at least one paying adult. And anyone aged 18 months and over can use the park but if you are under 8 you will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Jump 360 Hartlepool & Stockton, Teesside
With two sites on Teesside, Jump 360 is an exciting and exhilarating indoor trampoline park experience in North East England. General admission is £10 per session, with socks an additional cost of £2, however, toddler sessions are just £5. We recently visited Jump 360 in Hartlepool - read our review here.
Airbox Cramlington, Northumberland
Airbox provides the ultimate trampolining experience for children and adults alike.
Our venue is full of interconnected trampolines, angled walls, roll-over platforms, slamdunk basketball nets, trick airbags, foam pits, battle-beams, cardio wall, Ninja area, party rooms, and even our Box Café serving hot and cold refreshments and food. Sessions here are £10 per person but there is also mini-area with soft play and mini trampolines for under 5’s at £5.
Gravity Force Sunderland
Gravity Force Sunderland is located on the Sunrise Enterprise Park just off the A19. Here one hour of trampolining costs £10, which includes over 60 interconnected trampolines of all shapes and sizes, blocks, boxes and angled trampolines that let you literally bounce off the walls. As well as extreme dodgeball, slam dunk basketball lanes, huge foam pits and tumble tracks. Monkey Feet family, travel and lifestyle blog assure me that it's great!
There is even a Gravity Sundown on Friday nights - an event for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19. Apparently, when the clock strikes 8 the lights go down, the music goes up and the fun begins. In my day it was roller skating at Crowtree Leisure Centre!
Have you bounced around a trampoline park?

The girls have both enjoyed parties at the Cramlington and Newcastle ones and loved them! I am a little worried about the risk of injury so not sure I would want to take a group of my brownies!
