Lunch with the Girls at Gusto on Newcastle Quayside

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with a few friends. Although all mums of young children, on this occasion we left our children at home and enjoyed an afternoon of good food and wine and grown-up chat. We ate lovely food, and the sparkling conversation and wine flowed too at Gusto on Newcastle Quayside as we celebrated a birthday.

A Family Holiday to Loch Ness - Part 3 - A Harry Potter Road Trip

During half-term in May, we headed to Scotland for a family holiday. Our family of four based ourselves in a lodge overlooking Loch Ness and spent a week exploring the Scottish Highlands. On day 3 we headed west for a 'Harry Potter' road trip. Can you believe that it is 20 years since the first Harry Potter book, the iconic Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published?

Cool Citrus Coleslaw - This Summer's Perfect Slaw Recipe

***RECIPE***
The summer solstice is here. Today is the longest day of the year, with more hours of daylight than any other in the UK. Ofter termed midsummer, in fact, the summer is only just beginning. And summer food to me means salad.

Not a warm salad that we’ve enjoyed over winter, but a dish that is crispy, fresh, tasty, light but also filling. So here is a delicious recipe for a cool citrus coleslaw.

Family Day Out at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester

***REVIEW***
With a weekend in Manchester planned for the family, the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre was a place on the list that the boys were looking forward to visiting. They have been to LEGOLAND Windsor, and as the Manchester site is not a theme park, I made sure the boys knew this before we headed there for our family day out, but I needn’t have been worried.

Although my eldest, now 10 is probably reaching the top end of the age group LEGOLAND Manchester is aimed at, he and his brother (8) had a brilliant time. Four hours later we only left because the visitor attraction was closing!

A Family Holiday to Loch Ness – Part 1 - Jacobite Cruises and The Loch Ness Centre

Scotland. The UKs northernmost country, a land of mountains, glens and lochs and famous cities. Amazing landscapes, culture, history, and nature. All of these awaited us on our recent trip to Scotland.

The Highlands in Scotland, in fact. A place I'd only ever been to once before but have always wanted to return. Our first visit resulted from making the most of the amazing weather on a weekend in Glasgow to Newcastle, meaning we took the long route home via Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Aviemore and Edinburgh, with an overnight stay in Drumnadrochit. This time we planned a week-long stay. That wasn't the only difference though, this time we'd have two children coming with us too - their first experience of the Highlands.

We picked the western end of Loch Ness, Port Clair in between Invermoriston and Fort Augustus as our base. The luxury Loch Ness Highland Lodges were everything I expected and more, and with some great tips and ideas from Visit Inverness and Loch Ness, we were ready to go.

Why I'm voting for my children's future in the General Election

I wasn't going to write a political blog post. In fact, I'm not writing a party political blog post but instead why I'm voting for my children's future.

This is a 'family lifestyle' blog and there is nothing bigger happening in my life at the moment than the UK General Election and what it could potentially mean to the futures of my boys.

AniMalcolm by David Baddiel - A Book Review

***Review With Affiliate Links***

AniMalcolm is a new children's book by author David Baddiel. My Boys Club were asked to write a review of the book based on our very own honest opinions.

I have to say before you read this review, of AniMalcolm, that I am a big David Baddiel fan.

From right back to my student days when there were some TV programmes that our whole house watched religiously – by appointment as it is called it now - and even opted to stay in for (or at least head to the pub afterwards). One of these was The Mary White House Experience – a topical sketch show which transferred to TV from radio starring David Baddiel as well as Rob Newman, Hugh Dennis and Steve Punt.

My Boys Club review AniMalcolm a children's book by David Baddiel now out in paperback.
