5 things I learnt about Hadrian’s Tipi last night (REVIEW)

A huge tepee-style tent has appeared outside Central Station in Newcastle. Hadrian's Tipi is a pop-up, warming bar and eatery for shoppers and revellers over the Christmas period.

Here are 5 things I learnt about Hadrian’s Tipi last night ...

1. Although it's a tent it is lovely and warm.

You may think that ‘Tipi Chic’ should be a hat, coat, and boots but actually, once you get inside it is pretty warm. Especially if you are close to the firepit. There were some lovely hats on display though and with the weather how it is you definitely need it for the journey there and back.

2. It’s the perfect time for hot Gluhwein (mulled wine)

Winter is here and it’s the only time of year that mulled wine is palatable. Becomes surprisingly tasty in cold weather. In addition to Gluhwein and Wassail (hot cider), the bar also sells craft beers and real ales, bottles of wine and fizz by the glass. As well as teas, coffees, and Hadrians Hot Chocolate.

3. It has a free entry.

And that is every day from 8am until 1am from now until January 1st (except on Christmas Day) – that means there are a lot of hours left for you to try it out. Children and Dogs are welcome too.

4. If you build a tent they will come.
The VIP preview night was well attended and the capacity of inside the tent is around 180. A buzz has been created, and the organisers are expecting around 500/1000 visitors per day, so depending on when you go some people may have wait to get a spot by the fire.

5. Apparently Hadrian loved a Tipi.
In 122AD when one of the five ‘good’ Roman Emperors, Hadrian went on the road, he and his pals lived in Tipi-like tents. And within these Tipi walls, he enjoyed a bustling environment complete with great people, exotic teas and coffees, world foods, the best North East beers, ales and much more.

In 2016 the prices may be a little higher than for Hadrian, and than in some other venues in the area. But this is something different, a Tipi, a pop-up, and it's Christmas!

We were invited to the VIP evening and received a free Gluhwein as we tried out Hadrian's Tipi.

Cost: Free entry
Time: Open 8am - 1pm until 1 Jan excluding Christmas Day
Boys Club Rating: I think it will have lots of appeal at different times, to different people. I'll be taking the boys there for a hot chocolate for a festive treat over te next few months.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
